Injury rehabilitation

Our goal is to return our patients back to a productive life as quickly and safely as possible. Our treatment philosophy emphasizes an “active hands-on approach” while enlisting active participation in the recovery process and empowering clients with knowledge.  We teach them self-management and injury prevention.

At Complete Performance Ceneter we use a “team concept” approach to working with our clients. From our experience we have learned that clients demand immediate attention, accurate diagnosis and a plan of action that will safely get them back to the sport or life they want.   Passive forms of physical therapy and rehab may provide short term relief but ultimately treatment programs must move into active forms of therapy. Dependence on healthcare providers must be minimized and care transitioned into patient education and self treatment which allows patients to be more personally responsible for their healthcare.

We provide specific rehabilitation services for patients suffering sports injuries and general orthopedic problems. People with these conditions are typically looking for experienced specialists who are uniquely qualified to solve simple and complex conditions involving the musculoskeletal and neurological systems.  We find that soft tissue injuries are a major factor in their recovery.

SOFT TISSUE

With any musculoskeletal injury the soft tissues become involved either by direct injury, guarding and splinting, or through repetitive compensation patterns over time. This is why the identifying each specific tissue that is injured is important in resolving the injury fully.  Soft tissues include: muscles, tendons, ligaments, bursae, fascia, and nerves. The treatment of these structures is known as soft tissue mobilization.

•    Graston
Graston Technique® is an innovative, patented form of instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization that enables clinicians to effectively break down scar tissue and fascial restrictions. The technique utilizes specially designed stainless steel instruments to specifically detect and effectively treat areas exhibiting soft tissue fibrosis or chronic inflammation

•    Transverse Friction Massage (TFM)
Transverse Friction Massage, otherwise known as TFM, is a deep tissue technique that is performed at the site of the injury in order to breakdown scar tissue and remodel it to be a more flexible, pliable, and a more functional tissue. The application of TFM leads to immediate pain relief – the patient experiences a numbing effect during the friction and reassessment immediately after the session shows reduction in pain and increase in strength and mobility. This technique is valuable in treating muscle, tendon, and ligamentous injuries in both acute and chronic conditions.

•    Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF)
Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation, otherwise known as PNF, is an advanced form of flexibility training that involves both active stretching and isometric contraction of the muscle group being targeted. PNF exercises are based on the stretch reflex which is caused by stimulation of the golgi tendon and muscle spindles. This stimulation results in impulses being sent to the brain, which leads to the contraction and relaxation of muscles. When a body part is injured, there is a delay in the stimulation of the muscle spindles and golgi tendons resulting in weakness of the muscle. PNF exercises help to re-educate the motor units which are lost due to the injury. Improved flexibility leads to better biomechanics, reduces fatigue, and helps to prevent overuse injuries.

•    Myofascial Release (MFR)
Myofascial Release (MFR) is a safe and very effective hands-on technique that involves applying gentle sustained pressure into the Myofascial connective tissue restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion. Trauma, inflammatory responses, and/or surgical procedures create Myofascial restrictions that can produce tensile pressures of approximately 2,000 pounds per square inch on pain sensitive structures that do not show up in many of the typical imaging studies such as X-Ray and MRI. MFR affects change in the Myofascial structures by stretching, elongating fascia, and/or mobilizing adhesive tissues and ultimately helps change body posture.

Taping
Here at Complete Performance Center taping is a major component to getting our client back on thier feet.  There are various taping procedures to prevent injury or aid in the rehabilitation process. The type of taping technique chosen by your physician is determined by the stage of your healing process and by the amount of support needed to continue activity. At Complete Performance Center our doctors are trained to use Kinesio Tape, Rock Tape, Spider Tech, SPRT taping and are able to perform regular athletic taping in the clinical setting.
